Production Notes: I approached costuming for this show with an equal focus on character and authenticity for the period. Our production design was mystical and naturalistic to reflect the cultural awakening that Hair is an anthem to. The look for our Tribe (the chorus and the principles) was one of organic eclecticism. I focused on giving each member of the Tribe an individual look rather than an overall generic wardrobe of “hippie” clothes that might have felt cartoonish or like a caricature. To facilitate this process, every performer completed a survey about their character which I used when designing their individual look.
